Text Summarizer

The Text Summarizer extracts the main readable content from the current page and generates an AI-powered summary. Useful for quickly understanding articles, comparing research sources, or pulling clean text from ad-heavy pages.

When to Use It

  • Quickly understanding an article without reading it in full
  • Comparing summaries of multiple sources on the same topic
  • Extracting clean article text from pages with heavy navigation, ads, or popups
  • Getting a plain-text version of a page for notes or writing research

How to Use It

  1. 02
Navigate to an article, blog post, or content page in Chrome.
  2. 04
    Open CrawlPilot → Text Summarizer.
  3. 06
    Click Extract & Summarize.
  4. 08
CrawlPilot extracts the main content (from <article>, <main>, or the page body as a fallback) and sends it to the AI.
  5. 10
The summary appears in the panel within a few seconds.

Copy Options

  • Copy Text — copies the raw extracted text (no AI summary)
  • Copy Summary — copies only the AI-generated summary

AI Processing

The Text Summarizer uses Anthropic's Claude API. A trial usage quota is built into the extension. For heavy usage, you can add your own API key in Settings → Integrations → Anthropic API Key.

Note
Page text is sent to Anthropic's API for summarization. This is the only tool in CrawlPilot that sends your data to an external server. No data is stored by Anthropic beyond the API call.

Works Best On

  • News articles
  • Blog posts
  • Research and academic pages
  • Wikipedia articles
  • Documentation pages

Does Not Work On

  • Login-gated pages (content not accessible without authentication)
  • Primarily visual pages (image galleries, video pages with no transcript)
  • chrome:// internal pages
  • PDFs

Troubleshooting

"No content found": The page may use JavaScript to load its content after the initial page load. Wait for the page to fully render, then try again.

Summary seems incomplete: Very long articles may be truncated. Use Copy Text to get the full content and summarize it in your preferred AI tool.

Slow response: The AI API can take 3–10 seconds depending on article length. This is normal.
